The proposed replacement dwelling is set within an 0.7 acre plot, located within woodland that forms part of the Belmont Estate, within the Mid Kent Downs AONB. The clients were keen on a contemporary building in design and form together with extremely high eco-friendly credentials.

The massing, form and orientation of the new building have been carefully conceived in order to minimise the impact on the site and its surroundings. The main dwelling and garage block are both built and clad in sweet chestnut that is traditionally grown within the surrounding coppice woodland. The building has a green roof to support the local wildlife. The height of the building is kept well below the surrounding trees on the site and the sweet chestnut cladding is intended to be left to silver, and further integrate the building to its natural surroundings.

The building is orientated to maximise solar gain and will utilise a wood pellet boiler for heating and hot water requirements. The proposal also incorporates rain water harvesting and grey water recycling. The materials used throughout are sustainable, durable and in harmony with the site and its surroundings.
